Sports Funding

Sports Premium

For the third year we are benefitting from extra PE funding – approximately £6,500 has been given to the school at this time.

This year we are continuing our affiliation with the West Berkshire Sports Network led by James Mandry (from Park House) and Maxine Cooke (from St Gabriel’s). Cost £3,000.

We have been awarded the Sainsbury’s Silver Award for sport – going for gold next summer.

I had intended to send three Year 6 children to a Sports Ambassador’ Conference – sadly it clashed with our Open Day so Maxine is sending me the training schedule so I can do in-house training with them. They have already taken it upon themselves to begin ‘Playground games’ with our younger children so with an action plan coupled with their enthusiasm I am confident to further improve our playground provision.

Our partnership entitles us to 3 high quality coaching sessions – currently Chris Chapman is delivering gymnastics to Chestnut Class and Maple Class. He is returning after Christmas for Oak and Hornbeam Classes. In the summer we have more athletics coaching for all of K/S 2.

Karin Brooker has begun a 3 part REAL PE training course (she missed our day with Tim Dancer in the summer). She is enthused by the training and has been trialling sessions in class.

We are continuing to offer Dancephaze as an after school club but are asking for a small contribution from the children.

We are intending to participate in a range of sports competitions this year, so far …

  • Roman League led by Ben Dixon (we have won some, drawn and lost too but early days)
  • Alternative Olympics – we took a team to Park House and came back with the gold medal
  • Y5/6 football against Enborne (friendly match which we won)
  • Y5/6 football competition  - we came joint second after a rocky start
  • Y1/2 football against Enborne (friendly match which we won)

Impact to date (March 2016):

  • Continuing to increase opportunities for all the children to participate in a wide range of sporting activities.
  • PE and sport now have a higher profile in school – successes are shared in Merit assemblies
  • Children are keen to help me create a sports page for the website – this is nearly done with lots of input from the children.
  • The sports page is now complete with the need for regular updating.

  • Sports ambassadors have completed their training and have a plan to increase lunchtime games – this is to be further extended in consultation with Debbie Wallace following her Jenny Mosley course.
  • Children asking if they can represent the school at various sports events.
  • Lots of children trialling for the Cross Country Team
  • The introduction, after Easter, of the mile a day run to improve fitness and concentration based on evidence from schools that have trialled it.
  • With the budget news sports funding is to be increased to double the existing amount, this will enable us to further extend the opportunities for the children to experience different sports, buy new equipment, have high quality coaching, take part in inter and intra school competitions.
